My students need the classroom set of Rekenreks, along with a demonstration set, to build foundational math skills. These math materials are so cool!

My Students

We travel through books to adventures in far away places! We count from zero to 100 all year long - we use manipulatives of all kinds from bears to blocks!

Our Kindergarten students are ages 5 to 6 years old.

They are eager to learn to new skills and grow developmentally, as well as cognitively in many different ways. We live in a rural area of North Carolina and our economy has been affected highly by businesses closing. Due to these recent economic changes our community relies increasingly more on outside funding provided by parents and 3rd party grants to create the most positive learning environment possible.

My Project

The classroom set of Rekenreks (a set of learning abacuses) will allow each child to have a personal rack and to be able to manipulate the beads to show numbers: more, less, equal and number sentences/equations. By having the teacher demonstration set we will be able to model and facilitate the group.

Our Kindergarten students need to build their foundational skills in math.

By building from the concrete to the abstract the children are able to develop many math skills. The math skills we teach include composing and decomposing number sentences - a skill that can be very hard for children to master. The Rekenreks will help my kindergarten students to become more proficient in math!
