This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Hello! I am a first grade teacher in an inner city school in Maryland. My students live in a high need community but work very hard in school.
Every year I focus on differentiating instruction to fit the needs of all my students. For reading my class has workshop time where students work in several different areas practicing reading and writing skills while I teach guided reading to small groups. I have seen amazing improvements in my students reading ability because they are being taught at their individual levels. I would like to do the same thing in math but unfortunately I do not have many engaging materials to keep students focused at their seats or in groups while I reteach lessons, reinforce skills, or complete enrichment activities in small groups.
In order to meet the needs of my students I am asking for several math games that can be used by students individually at their seats or in small groups on the rugs. Each math game will reinforce math skills that have been taught throughout the year and keep students engaged so that behavior issues do not interrupt group work.
Every student deserves to learn at his or her level. These materials will help me reteach skills with students who are struggling with different math skills as well as provide enrichment activities to allow my gifted math students to excel even more.
