I teach in a multi-grade classroom (3-5) full of inquisitive and interesting 8- to 11-year-old boys and girls. Our students have a range of different needs, including one-on-one, adapted materials, extra support, and help with coping skills. All of our students are in our Day Treatment setting due to not being successful in a regular education classroom.
We have a small classroom store that our students earn Breathe bucks to go shopping at.
They earn these bucks by doing their work, being responsible, respectful, and safe. It is heartwarming to see our students save for a special item or decide to buy something for a family member.
Our kids come to us with very little and have very high needs. With all this, our attendance is high and their eagerness to learn is infectious!
My Project
We have a small classroom store. Our students earn Breathe bucks by completing work, being kind, safe, and responsible. Our students need just a little more incentive than good grades to have successful behaviors and work completion.
Our students are also learning how to save for the future, balance a checkbook, and have fun while doing it.
Our little store has items that the students have requested and some that our staff has donated.
It is a great motivational tool for our students that need a little extra encouragement to get things done.
