The students at my school are lively, energetic, and creative kids. Our school has approximately 300 students and is located in Monroe, Wisconsin. We strive to work collaboratively with students, families, and the community to build relationships and together we will prepare all students to succeed.
My school fosters a compassionate learning environment with high expectations in which all students can grow and achieve.
We know how special our students are and we hope to give students all the tools they need in order to achieve their highest potential.
My Project
At my school, we are looking to dedicate a space specifically for students to use if they need to self-regulate their bodies or their emotions. We plan to purchase specific tools for students to use including sensory socks, weighted blankets, and sensory putty, just to name a few. Along with these tools, students will also take part in social/emotional skill groups to practice how they can become their own best advocates.
Self-regulation is a skill, so let’s teach it!
Kids aren’t born knowing how to self-regulate any more than they’re born knowing how to tie their shoes.” As special education teachers, we understand how important it is for students to have access to tools, but also for students to be able to identify their own needs and utilize the appropriate tools.
We are specifically asking for additional resources to use with some small groups that will focus on social skills and social/emotional behavior. These resources will be used alongside other curriculum to support instruction. This includes social skills games, books about other feelings, and other additional resources for teachers to use to supplement curriculum.
