I work with seventh grade students who have a wide range of needs that need to be met in order to succeed in the classroom. Many of my students have Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which makes it very difficult for them to focus during a lesson. If they were given seating options at school that allowed them to bounce, rock, wobble, and stretch, many of their attention needs could be met!
It’s no surprise that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
My students want so desperately to have the ability to move around the classroom without disturbing their classmates. They love to learn, engage in discussion, and work hard! It is a blessing to work with my students each day and to see the enormous growth they make.
My Project
My students need the freedom of choice and the option to find which type of seating best meets their educational needs in my classroom. I chose the Wobble Chair because it allows for rocking without fear of tipping over and is a quieter choice than some other flexible seating options. Some of my students like to sit on the floor, and the Lap Desk would allow them to continue their work without a balancing act!
If my students were given more choices than just the traditional desk-and-chair in the classroom, engagement levels could soar!
I want to give my students all of the tools they need to succeed in my classroom, and flexible seating would be an incredible upgrade to their educational experience.
