Regions of the United States Can Be Fun!

My students need a Cricut Die-Cut Machine and a cartridge.

I am a 3rd grade general education teacher teaching in a mainstream special education class. This means that I have both regular and special education students with needs. Our district is comprised of mostly middle-low to low income families. My particular school has more than sixty-percent free and reduced lunches. I teach all subjects to all of my students. I have students in every level of ability from grades one through mid-fourth. Finding materials to teach the broad ability range can be a task as well as trying to make it engaging, interesting, and curricular related. I want my students to really love learning and to understand the topics presented to them. The unit I have developed will incorporate all of the core subjects, Math, Science, and Language Arts. The lessons will be both written and hands on. In order to do this, I need a Cricut Expression Die-Cut machine. The Cricut Expression has the capability of cutting letters and other shapes in a variety of sizes, spanning from a quarter of an inch to almost twenty-four inches in size. Using this tool, educators are able to create an appealing bulletin board with nothing more than a small stack of card stock or other colored paper. Although the Expression is great for cutting basic lettering and shapes, I like this item because it is specifically targeting those in the education field with its line of Classmate cartridges, which are designed for use in the classroom. This line of Cricut cartridges for early childhood educators and elementary school teachers can be used for teaching several subjects, including language, phonics, and social studies. Our third-graders study the U.S. Regions all year long. Using the 50 States cartridge, for example, teachers/students can create a cutout of each state to make puzzles, quizzes, and regions. Also part of the Classmate line, the Word Builders cartridge series is designed to help elementary students with their language, phonetic, and spelling skills. Using the Word Builders cartridges, educators can make puzzle-type cutouts of letters and groups of letters. These die cuts, when pieced together in the correct combinations by students, form words. This is especially useful to our grade level to help at-risk students who did not “learn” in the traditional modes. Your help will ensure that my students have valuable learning opportunities that will address state standards. This will not just be a tool for creating bulletin boards, we will be able to create flash cards, class books, word walls, games, hands on quizzes, and much more. This is an experience that they will truly enjoy and remember for a lifetime. What a great gift you will be giving my students; our future.
