The mission of our school is to provide a whole school community that strives to challenge students and enrich the learning process through our seven core values. Here, we dedicate each day to achieving high academic standards and developing character. We support and nurture the whole child, and we work tirelessly to ensure that all children are given the opportunity to succeed and become productive members of a global society.
Within the last two years, several of the smaller schools in our district have closed and consolidated in order to combat the declining population and budget restraints.
Prior to the consolidation, there were four high schools. Currently, there are only two public high schools in our district, and residents now identify themselves based on their affiliation with a school. The consolidation of the schools has resulted in an interlinking and continuous fellowship among the residents within the county.
We have initiated an after school walking club to engage students who are not a part of an extracurricular sports club to become physically active. Many students have expressed interest in participating in our exercise endeavor, and have actually stayed after school to participate. One issue is that they often complain of being hungry before and after we complete our walk. One of the primary reasons for this is that we have our lunch at 10:30 a.m each morning. By the time we begin walking at 3:30 p.m., the students are famished.
In order to curtail this problem, we would like to provide students with a small snack of popcorn and apple juice before we walk sports water and crackers after our walk.
These food items will encourage more students to stay after school to participate in our walking club and ensure that they have the energy to give their best efforts.
