My Special Education classroom is located in a small district within the Southern Tier of New York. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, in terms of demographics, socioeconomic status, ability, and motivation. Each student has specific and unique needs, and I have been trying my best to meet each need to help them succeed in the classroom.
My Special Education classroom is composed of fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, all with varying academic abilities.
Within my classroom, I am solely responsible for covering all curriculum materials. Many of my students spend their entire academic day with me, leaving only for special classes like the arts or physical education. Each student needs the curriculum modified and adapted in order to be successful. With the proper support my students will continue to grow throughout the school year as they prepare for the future.
Here is where you come in. In order for my students to be most successful, I want to begin creating more hands-on activities to fit their various needs. It is my hope that you can help my students succeed! I have many unique individuals that I hope to make a difference in their lives.
My Project
As we have hit 100 days of schools, supplies are being depleted. We still have 80 days to go! Due to the nature of my students and their diverse needs, being able to provide snacks and supplies leads to their success. Snacks help provide my students with energy to make it through the morning until lunch. Many students take advantage of the free or reduced breakfast provided at our district but it simply isn't enough to provide for growing teenagers with disabilities. Clorox wipes help keep surfaces clean and students healthy which will increase student attendance.
Snacks and school supplies, like pencils, will help make my students successful.
With all the progress my students have made this year our pencil supply is quickly depleting. Ziploc bags help with storage and allows students to take home leftover snacks from the classroom or cafeteria. The Sharpies in the room need to be replaced because they are dried out. Overall, we are in need of snacks to help us focus in order to complete work. The supplies will allow the students to have what is needed to be successful!
