No two days in our classroom are ever the same. But they are all similar. We come to school each day excited and ready to explore the world we're learning about!
Our classroom is a blended Pre-K classroom where our 3 to 5 year-old learners are beginning their educational journey.
Being a blended classroom means that we have 8 students who have special needs and 8 typically developing peers. We strive to create a classroom environment that embraces the strengths of each of our students. We talk often about how "we're all still learning", whether that be working on opening a milk carton independently or being able to read sight words. Everyday our students learn many different types of skills in many different types of ways. And every day is full of excitement and exploration.
Each student in our classroom learns in his or her own unique way. We use many hands-on, interactive experiences to help our curriculum make sense for each of our students. Technology is one way to do this. Our class uses many types of technology to expose our students to the wonderful world of books. TAG readers put interactive books in the hands of our students. Wireless headphones give our kids a chance to listen to their favorite books while reading along with a special recording. And assistive technology devices give our students with speech and language delays the supports they need to communication with their classmates. But these are materials that require batteries. When many students are enjoying these materials each day, batteries tend to be depleted very quickly. We will use these rechargeable batteries to power our learning tools so that our students can engage with the world in a new, exciting way. And having a battery charger will allow us to reuse these batteries.
This project will help our classroom so much.
We will be able to plan regular activities in the Listening Center for our students based around hearing the language of books. We will be able to use our TAG readers more often to interact with our books and maps. And we will be able to ensure that our buttons, books, and adaptive materials will be powered up for students to use to help them communicate.
