Greetings All - The students I serve have not been exposed to other methods of handling daily life stressors. I recognize that healthy stress is a natural part of life, including childhood. However environmental Stress impairs attention, emotion and mood regulation, sleep, and learning readiness in the classrooms. I would like to assist my students with dealing with emotional stress, focus, and engagement, as well as seeing them improve their academic performances.
They are Resilient and many are capable of rising and expanding their potentials to exceptional levels.
They just need some tools to help them along. Children and adults alike need to be challenged in order to grow and develop.
Students will be taught basic techniques of breathing, yoga and mindfulness focusing practices that can be used in the classroom. For intense, "Breathe Chill:A Handy Book of Games and Techniques Introducing Breathing , Mediation and Relaxation To Kids and Teens" will give me the flexibility and creativity to teach students additional ways of coping with themselves and others. It is my hope that by introducing students to these methods they will come to realize the value of themselves and others. Stresses of life will be a little less daunting and they can have a more positive outlook overall. Ultimately, I will be helping them create a space where they can refocus themselves and tap into their unrealized potentials.
My mantra currently is "Relaxed students learn better; relaxed teachers teach better!" I would like to incorporate these practices for short time periods during the day.
In addition, I would like to use these resources with the Summer Spark Program that I will taking part in this year. For the last two years I have taught Yoga, Mindfulness and Breathing techniques to middle school students as part of the enrichment activities being offered. Hence the resources I have requested such as the "Mindfulness Yoga 4 classroom Activity Deck" will allow me to create fresh, new and engaging lessons. I would eventually like for the students to create their own routines and state why they chose particular aspects that they have learned. They will also explain how their routines will help them to reach a more calm and relaxed state of being.
