Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Most of our student-athletes have been attending our school since kindergarten. All are residents of Chicago's Southside with many of them living walking distance from the school. Our students are quite comfortable talking about the dangers of growing up on Chicago's Southside as they have written about some of these challenges during drop everything and write (D.E.A.W). Our coaching staff has provided them with the opportunity to work out every day of the week if they choose by opening the school gym on Sundays. We have implemented YOGA Tuesday and Thursday mornings while having basketball practice on all of the other days. These materials will allow our students to train their minds, bodies, and spirits to fight to overcome any and all adversity in their lives through discipline, focus, and work ethic. The Mamba Mentality will be our model in honor of the late and great Kobe Bryant.
