This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When students file into my room, we gather to talk about our lesson. I introduce students to the elements of art and art history in an age-appropriate manner.

We are a public kindergarten in our eighth year in a city serving high needs, low-income families.

In the art room, I like to mix things up by exposing my students to a lot of variety. That is a variety of materials and a variety of projects and techniques. We work with both traditional and non-traditional media. Many of them have very little experience using anything other than broken crayons and dried-out markers. A positive, nurturing experience with the arts early in life can be life-changing. It opens the door to creativity and an outlet for self-expression.

My Project

We recently had a similar project funded where we received Ultra Low Temp Hot glue guns and their accessories. The students loved using them SO MUCH that we expanded the project and used up all of the glue sticks already!

This project includes 10 packages of special Ultra Low Temp glue sticks, more knifes to cut cardboard safely and additional sizes of the protective gloves for students to wear.

We are having so much fun and hope that it can continue!

Giving my young students access to tools that they consider to be "grown up" empowered them. Their confidence and creativity is flourishing.
