I teach 150 seventh and eighth grade middle schoolers in my building per semester. They have chosen to take technology as an elective. This group includes a wide variety of students, from those identified as gifted and talented, to students identified as special education students, who need support with an individual education plan. My experience with them has taught me that they think they are "too cool for school" and usually have to be coerced into learning. Once their interest is piqued, they never cease to amaze me with their ability to learn. They are digital natives and can usually teach me a thing or two.
My students want their education to be relevant and mirror real-life experiences.
I want to give them the opportunity to shine. I want to support all the needs of my students. Together, we are a most excellent team.
My Project
Maintaining a real MakerSpace requires replacing tools that have been well-used. These cutting mats and cutting tools are just what we need to continue being able to create amazing inventions, creations, and projects. Additionally, we need glue, an adhesive cartridge for our sticker maker, and supplies for our Cricut Maker machine.
All of these tools will help my students continue to create build their creative skills.
I am to turn my kids into creators, not just remain consumers. We always have a something to make but we can't do that without these tools.
