Help us play our instruments! My students need some basic supplies to help them play their instruments well.
I teach instrumental music to fourth and fifth grade students in three elementary schools in a small school district in New Jersey.
My students are just beginning to discover the joy and satisfaction that playing an instrument provides, and they are working hard to become better musicians. As the school year progresses, we are in need of some supplies to keep the instrumental program running smoothly.
My Project
In order to play a clarinet or saxophone, a reed for the instrument is needed. Reeds get chipped and broken and need to be replaced on a regular basis. I am asking for reeds for my students so that they can continue to play their instruments this school year. In addition, I have a few students who do not have ligatures for their clarinets. Ligatures are essential in order to hold the reed onto the clarinet. With four new ligatures, my students can stop using rubber bands to keep their reeds in place.
have also had a large number of students sign up to play percussion and clarinet this school year. I need more method books so that each student can take one home to practice. Last, I am asking for some chain necklaces. These are used as incentives when students practices for a certain number of hours. I have music charms that they can string onto the necklaces. They will be able to wear their accomplishments for all to see! What a motivator!
Each of these items serves an important purpose in the music education of my students.
With the proper materials, my students will continue to develop as young musicians and will carry the skills they learn with them throughout their lifetimes.
