Help me give my students the AmazonBasics Battery charger and rechargeable AAA batteries for our robots and to teach students the importance of reducing waste.
My school's mission is to equip, empower, and engage all students to reach their full potential through academic, social, and emotional growth. We are a Title I school with students of diverse needs. We meet the needs of students from Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. Our school has a strong sense of community. We are always looking for new ways to engage our students and meet their individual needs, which are many.
Our students have made great academic progress over the last several years, and we want to continue that progress through real-world experiences.
Our current group of students are beginning to gain exposure to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), as well as, computer science concepts. We want to further their knowledge and excitement of STEAM and computer science.
My Project
We recently put a Maker Space in our library and bought several robots for our entire school's use. The robots are used in library stations, for academic lessons, computer science lessons, and in our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) lab. Our students are learning the basics of robotics and computer science through the use of these robots. These robots need several batteries resulting in a lot of waste.
We want to further our students' learning of recycling and human impact by making this change in our school.
We want to use rechargeable batteries in our robots instead of throwing away numerous batteries each year. With the use of rechargeable batteries, we can reduce our waste and give students an authentic lesson on recycling technologies and human impact.
