Help me give my students covers for the fluorescent lights to reduce headaches and eye strain, as well as books about the Salem Witch Trials so they can learn some local history.
The students I work with are from a rural mill town where business has not been booming lately. Poverty levels are high and aspirations are low. The students in my classes have emotional, intellectual, and learning disabilities which prevent them from being successful in many regular high school classes. As a newer teacher, my supplies are limited and I have to find creative ways to motivate my students. Once they come to school I need to not only teach them but make them want to come back the next day. This happens through support, honesty, and trust. Any help would be much appreciated!
My Project
Fluorescent lighting is found in just about every classroom. It helps to light up the room but also helps to increase headaches and aching eyes. Keeping the lights off only goes so far as we live in Maine where the weather is constantly changing and the room can get very dark very quickly.
These light covers will help dim the lights while keeping to room bright enough to work.
We will also be doing a unit on the Salem Witch Trials, as many of the accused witches were from Maine. These books will be helpful for small group work as well as provide high interest books to low achieving students.
