My students need recycling bins to recycling every day products - paper, plastic, glass. A composting bin to learn about recycling our food and natural waste.
I have 18 wonderful and inquisitive first graders. We live in a rural community where pollution and recycling are not frequently talked about or practiced. Yet, our students are all aware of the value of the land and want to be good stewards of it as many are farm kids.
My kids are eager to learn about recycling and bring it to the community.
We want it to be easy so it becomes part of their everyday life - at school and at home!
My Project
Students in our rural area do not do a lot of recycling. We want to teach them to be good stewards of their planet by reducing, reusing and recycling.
We will start in the lower grades - pre-school, kindergarten and first - by making recycling easy by placing recycling bins in each room.
We will use a compost bin to recycle food products to enrich the soil for planting. The students will be responsible for transferring their recycling to the school-wide recycling bins and see how much difference their recycling makes.
We need to make this an every day occurrence for students so they will start recycling at home also!
