Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from various cultural backgrounds. They are from various parts of South & Central America (Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, El Salvador). Even when they are economically disadvantaged that does not stop them from doing their best! They are eager to learn everyday when they come in the door. I love seeing them motivated to learn. They are the reason I am there.
Our school is title I, predominately Hispanic at 94%.
We have about 750 students in our campus, with 74% of our students receiving a free or reduced lunch. Our students come from low income homes, which puts them at risk of dropping out of school. We are currently at 86% of at risk students.
My Project
This year I decided to explore flexible seating in my classroom, and I love it! I have noticed the difference in the students at how actively engaged they are while working on classroom activities/assignments. The students enjoy having the opportunity to have other seating options. With the donation of the flexible seating options, the students will have the control of sitting where they work best. Most importantly they will be comfortable while they are learning. The stools, stability balls, and soft seats will be a great addition to the classroom. Flexible seating will help them stay focused and be productive on what they are working on. Students can easily pair up or work in small groups, which I highly encourage collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. The only problem is I do not have enough seating option for all of my students. Flexible seating makes a huge difference! Please help us reach our goal! Thank you!
