I have an amazing group of 4th graders this year. Although I have a large class of 29, they are all hard working, kind, and want to make a positive change in the world. 42% of my school's student population live in low-income housing. Last year my school district adopted 3 promises to address key elements impacting student and school success.
The three promises are that every student is known by name, strength, and need by at least one adult, teachers will increase/focus instruction from direct to engaged and empowered instructional opportunities, and 90% of 3rd graders will read at or above grade level.
My Donor's Choose projects will reflect these promises.
My students are passionate about making a change in this world. After Earth day this year, they decided they wanted to make a recycling club and pick up trash around the playground. They want to continue to do this, but realized that plastic gloves and plastic bags just add to the problem. By donating to my project, you will give my students reusable items to help keep the playground clean.
They have taken it a step farther, and want to make a bigger change in our community and our state.
They have written letters to the Governor and local restaurants. They have collected plastic bags from our school breakfast to try and get that to change. I am so proud of my class!
