Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, but they all have at least one thing in common: a love for and respect of our planet. As educators, we make an effort every day to stress the importance of caring for our planet and our environment, and our students respond to this by showing a great willingness to save energy and keep things clean.
Almost all 9th graders entering our school will take Earth & Environmental Science as their first science class, and a crucial part of the curriculum for this class is the practice of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle." During this course, they will be exposed to many ways they can work to keep our world healthy and safe for themselves and future generations.
Many of our students come from agricultural backgrounds, and keeping our environment clean and healthy is directly connected to producing high-quality food products from their family's lands. By learning to reduce, reuse, and recycle goods, they will be much more able to be productive and efficient farmers upon graduating.
My Project
Earth & Environmental Science students will use these bins to collect recyclables from each classroom to reduce our school's ecological footprint and help keep our town and county clean and healthy. Our school has more than 800 students, each of whom use things like plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and paper each day. If all of these end up in the trash, a huge amount of material is being wasted. Our Earth Science students are committed to spreading environmental awareness, and, by collecting recyclable materials from our school, we are headlining the environmental movement in our town and county.
A recycling program already exists at our school, but without, proper collection bins, it has become a complicated, messy, and sometimes ineffective program.
We need proper bins in order to show that we mean business! By placing a bin in each classroom, students at our school will understand that recycling can be easy and effective. Only by getting everyone on board with the concept of reduce, reuse, and recycle, can we as a school become leaders in the fight to protect our environment.
