Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a very diverse Title I school in the inner city, which serves students in grades PreK-5 and provides rigorous academics and a safe learning environment. All children receive free breakfast and lunch due to this neighborhood's socioeconomic status. They come from a wonderful mix of ethnic and economic backgrounds, and despite any challenges that my students may face, they come to school daily prepared to do their best.
Each morning my students actively come into our classroom eager and excited to start a new day of learning.
They walk into the classroom bursting with energy, creativity and full of life. My students truly inspire me with their passion and insatiable love for learning.
My Project
In my classroom, my students know the importance of taking care of our earth. They know that our earth is facing many challenges and it is our job to create ways to help it survive longer. One challenge our earth faces is our overflowing landfills. Our landfills are overflowing with materials that can take years to decompose but can be recycled or reused in other ways. Therefore, it is only fitting that during our unit on technology, all first grade students are challenged to create a robot using only recycled materials.
The three mini robots will serve as models for all first grade students.
We will build them in the class together. Students will see how household materials, such as a brush, a can, pencils etc..., can be recycled to create their robots. Kids LOVE this project because they get to work with their family to create a robot using only recycled materials. Also because they are working to solve a real world problem that will make their world a better place.
I am ordering four of each robot because there are four first grade classes at my school.
