Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Last year, a young lady at our high school decided to start the Nat-Eco Club (Nature and Ecology Club). She wanted to get students energized about taking care of the earth and helping their community while learning about some of the most important issues facing the world in the 21st century. The club started with just 12 members and has grown to 25 this year! Members have participated in community clean up days, beach clean ups, the beautification of local trails (painting murals), and fundraising activities.
This year, the goal is to start a paper recycling program to help save energy, reduce greenhouse gases, reduce landfill space and to save ecosystems.
Most of the waste in the classrooms is paper, so it makes sense to educate the students and staff in helping to do their part to recycle. There are 150 classrooms and offices within our school, so the school will need a great number of bins in order to get this much needed program started! The club's ultimate goal is to start the paper recycling program at our school and then share their ideas and success with the rest of the schools within the district.
My Project
Our high school's Nat-Eco Club's goal is to educate the students and staff to be responsible citizens. Recycling paper conserves natural resources, saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and keeps landfill space free for other types of trash that can't be recycled. Currently, all of the paper waste at the school is being thrown away in trash bins which, in turn, is taken to a local landfill. By educating the students and staff about the importance of recycling paper and with the introduction of these paper recycling bins into the classrooms, the paper waste will be recycled instead.
Recycling paper is easy.
All our school needs are the bins! Our club will do the rest by educating our school about all the benefits to recycling paper waste and helping to keep our Earth viable for future generations.
