Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in a low-income neighborhood in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Many of our students are bilingual, with English being their second language. In music class my students enjoy singing, dancing, playing instruments, and learning to read music.
Our students love making music, and do so in and out of my class.
They enjoy learning almost as much as they relish in showing off their newfound musical skills. They take great pride in learning and applying basic music notation to something they can really hear and perform!
My Project
Proper audio equipment will enhance the quality of music my students are able to digitally create. Many students pursue music through traditional pathways such as band, choir, and orchestra. A few play in bands outside of school as they get older. An avenue that is often overlooked is that of making music digitally, which can be done by an individual at a relatively low cost and can be as simple or complex as the artist chooses it to be.
Digital music has many practical applications in the real world and is heard frequently in everything from movies to tv shows to video games.
Currently our students are recording vocals into the built-in microphones on school iPads and listening back on headphones that are nearly worn out. The powered studio monitor and USB audio interface would allow us to use real microphones and listen back with a much higher sound quality than what we're currently using.
