My Students

Remember your music class in elementary school? Probably a little boring. Well, not anymore! Students in music classes today get to sing, play instruments, listen, compose, read, write, improvise, move, dance, and then some!

My school is home to nearly 800 students, serving kindergarten through fifth grade.

Our students love music, but unfortunately most of the funding goes to reading and math. All of our equipment gets used frequently, so any money we do get often goes to replacing the basics. For many of our students, music class is their favorite time of day. It is the one place where they can express themselves and be creative. Our community was hit especially hard by the economic recession and many families cannot afford musical opportunities for their children outside of school.

My Project

Many of my students have little resources at home. They can't even afford to buy a classroom recorder. But they love to play! I've been able to get funding for a few of these kids, but it just isn't enough! I still have students playing on instruments that are falling apart! These new recorders will also allow the students to create their own "recorder band" where they can learn to play songs together and continue to bond as a classroom community.

Without your help, this will not be possible!

My kids LOVE playing the recorder and want so badly to be able to take it to the next level! It's so hard to see them get exciting ideas about music only to be let down by lack of funding. Help them realize this one small dream!
