Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello, everyone ! I'm an elementary music teacher in a Title I school district. I serve a student population in the South Side of San Antonio,Texas. All the students in my school receive free lunches and live in low income housing near the school . While my students don’t have much money they have good hearts and are hard workers . They would love to play the recorder for their families and their community . Please consider helping my students attain a music education .
My Project
My students will learn to read music and be able to perform simple songs for their parents. It is my hope that their love for music will encourage them to pursue middle school band. I’ve had several former students come back and thank me for giving them the opportunity to perform. I really hope that my project is funded so many students will have this opportunity. Music is shown to give students a better focus, discipline and academic advantage. I’ll be doing recorder lessons three times a week for 45 minutes. If students need additional help I’ll work with them after school for 30 minutes so that they don’t fall behind the other students. We would love to purchase soprano recorders for all our 4th and 5th-grade students. It will be a great way for them to express their love of music and give them an opportunity to perform for the community.
Please consider helping our students get a quality music education during the 2019-2020 school year.
