This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Do you remember learning to play the recorder in music class when you were younger? My current third graders are anticipating learning to play next year.

I work at a new Title I school.

We will be starting our second year next year. Many of our students are free or reduced-price lunch kids. My current third graders love music and are excited about learning to play recorders in fourth grade. We're hoping you can help make this possible

My Project

This past year, students were on their own to purchase recorders. Many of them bought inexpensive recorders. Many of them began cracking and breaking just from being in their book bags. I have used the type of recorders I've requested previously. They are high quality and durable. They are also easier to produce low tones on.

Learning to play the recorder teaches so many life skills.

My students learn to set goals for themselves. They learn the correlation between practicing and success. They learn perseverance as they work on songs that are challenging. They also learn the joy that making music brings.
