My Students
All the students at my TK-5 elementary school attend my music classes. My students are a diverse group that come from many different backgrounds. They bring different insights, talents, and challenges to me as a music teacher. Their exposure to music varies as well.
They bring a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the music classroom.
They relish every opportunity to play and sing during music. I want to provide them with as many ways as possible to perform and experience music in the classroom.
My Project
I teach a diverse group of students ranging in age from TK to fifth grade. In third grade, these student students have the opportunity to learn to play the recorder.
Recorder Karate enables the students to learn the recorder in a fun and motivating manner.
Students learn the basics of music theory and how recorders work in the beginning. Once they understand how to read music, the curriculum instructs them in learning fingering for notes. They have the opportunity then to pass the songs off to earn belts to hang on their recorders. The opportunity to earn belts is very exciting for the students. If they complete their black belt song, they become Recorder Karate masters!
