My students need recorders. We are looking at approximately 100 students next year and I want them to start with a high quality recorder that won't break.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am at an advantage of being the the only music teacher in a K-8 School. That means I already know most of my students for next year. My current third graders are all asking me if they are getting recorders next year. They are already excited about it.
These kids love music.
As third graders they are reading and writing for singing, turning poetry into their own songs. They love music. As this year is winding down they stop by just to tell me they will miss me and want to sing during the summer. These kids are creative and full of energy. They are excited about learning.
My Project
Each student will have their own recorder that they can take home to practice or leave at school for safe keeping and come practice before school. In the past students purchased their own, only to end up with cheap broken recorders within the first few months. Some of our students cannot afford their own instruments so being able to give one to all of them doesn't make anyone feel bad about getting one.
Every student will begin the first recorder lesson with their own quality recorder.
No one will be left behind because their mom didn't have time or forgot. Studying an instrument is proven to have a correlation with math as well as life skills. Help these students learn that perseverance and responsibility can pay off.
