Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an amazing and dynamic group of second graders.
I teach a wonderful group of second-grade students at a small Title I (low socioeconomic status) school.
This means that many of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Just like any class, my students have a variety of needs.
In our school we like to focus on music to help drive instruction. As students enter 3rd grade they should be able to read music and play simple instruments. It has shown that by learning to read and play music, students achieve higher scores and greater success in learning reading and math.
My Project
All of my students want to learn to read and play music. In second and third grade we are given the chance to learn to read music and play musical instruments. Having recorders that students can take home and practice with will increase their ability to read and play music.
Students who have musical training in elementary school will develop the areas of the brain related to language and reasoning.
Research has found that learning music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitably use in other areas. This is a fun and engaging way to help students reach their full potential.
