My students need 8 Sphero coding bots to practice creating solutions to problems posed collaboratively to encourage highly engaging science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
We are a Title One school and all scholars receive free breakfast, lunch and non-perishable meals to take home on Friday for the weekend. Our school is among the most diverse schools in the nation for cultural diversity! I have a large percentage of English language learners in the classroom, as well as some that are developmentally delayed. They are wonderful children that love to learn from each other and love school. This class is so special because we are made up of families from all over the world, from Southeast Asia to the Polynesian Islands. Our diversity makes us feel proud and they love celebrating it!
Muldoon students are the most unique students I have ever worked with and thrive in a safe, caring, respectful, challenging and engaging learning environment!
My Project
The utilization of these Sphero Minis is endless. They are adaptable and offer not only a digital but also a physical component to the learning experiences through collaborative inquiry. Students may have to pose a problem and then find a unique solution to prove learning.
Students are able to learn engineering design model, practice 21st century skills towards being engaged and successful in an ever changing world while learning how to "fail" and celebrate these as mistakes as learning successes!
Students are learning how to think and problem solve which are both skills that the traditional classroom model tends to forgo.
While some students become disengaged in learning, these learning tools offer students a desirable and challenging way to think about learning.
