Our students are in a program where they split their time between academics and transitional skills. Some of these skills learned are job training skills while others are adult living skills. Cooking is one adult living skill we like to expose our students to in a controlled environment to help their parents prepare them for their future.
We don't have a lab and supplies to teach our students how to cook basic recipes, so we are in need of small appliances that can be pulled out to use and put away to learn academics.
The students have been compiling favorite recipes or recipes they would like to try, but we are in need of these appliances and tools, like crock pots, electric griddles, hot plates and skillets, a waffle iron, and a donut maker. Not to mention a couple of pots and some cooking utensils. With all of these, our students can practice following a recipe and cook simple dishes that they can someday make on their own. In addition, our hope is to prepare these students enough that in the spring, we can host a fundraiser where the community can eat breakfast with the Easter Bunny. To do this, we need tools and practice!
