Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. The school I currently work at has 75% of its students receiving free or reduced lunch. Many students come from various backgrounds socially, economically, linguistically, and physically that may present struggles to be successful in a school setting. Despite the many challenges they face, students come in eager and ready to learn about the world around them.
Our science classroom is a positive, safe environment where learning takes place through a variety of interactive activities to enrich their learning.
Through these activities, I am hoping to close the achievement gap and prepare my students for a lifetime of learning. I have noticed that many of my students are attending less than 85% of calendared school days, and when they are here they are here, they are not engaged.
Science is a critical content filled with lifelong skills. I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. I want to gear interactive technological activities that geared towards disengaged students, making them excited.
My Project
This project will enable my classes to have a secure place to keep our Chrombook computers. The computers are a lifeline for student learning in my class. Teaching the children to use and return them to a secure location is a part of this learning. R Park Middle School is large with over 1,000 students who go here. Right now, my computers are on counter tops in the class, near outlets in order to keep them charged for the next day. If we had this recharge station, I would be able to efficiently monitor the use and proper charge of my 8 computers.
