Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember digging through a box of batteries trying to find ones that work? We do this regularly at our school.
My school is located in the community of South Central Los Angeles.
We are the home of the Lions where we always say, "Never, never give up." I have 31 wonderful students who come to school ready to work and do their best.
Our class logo is "Dedication - Hard Work." My students come with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster and migrant, to name a few. My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities involve STEM. Many of them are already planning to become engineers, scientists, and mathematicians.
My Project
We need these rechargeable batteries and chargers for our STEM time. Currently the students are using regular AA batteries to power their robots. Each robot requires 6 AA batteries, 3 AAA and 1 D battery. Because the students use their robots so often, we go through batteries very quickly. This is wasteful and unsustainable. With the help of rechargeable batteries and battery chargers, the students can quickly change them out when they run out of power and then simply recharge them. This allows them to focus on building and programming.
These batteries are very essential needs for my classroom, and I'm asking for your support.
My students will be very happy if they get these supplies for this school year. They will understand that there are many people that care for them and their future.
