My students learn in a Title I school and come from a variety of different economic and cultural backgrounds with over 75% receiving free or reduced-priced lunch. Many of our students also receive backpack blessings which is a bag of food they take home for the weekend. We have a few that are ELLs with Spanish being the first language of most. Many of our students are experiencing or have experienced some type of change in family status. In spite of so many hardships, especially recently (our area was hit hard by hurricane Florence), my students are eager to learn and do their best. Their love for learning shows each and every day through their smiles, enthusiasm, and hard work. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful students.
My Project
My students love to play sports during outdoor recess and board games during indoor recess. Our classroom has limited options for this.
My students will benefit from recess equipment such as different sports balls, and jump ropes to engage in organized games.
With this equipment they will be able to play four square, soccer, football, basket ball and jump rope. All these activities will get them active and outside. On those days where the weather doesn't permit us to go outside, board games are a popular choice for my students. They enjoy the friendly competition that games such as chess give them.
