I work with a group of 24 compassionate and energetic second graders. My students come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds but they treat each other like they are one big family.
I am a first year teacher and I have been warmly welcomed by all 280 students at my school.
I would love to be able to give back by providing a way for all student to feel included and form friendships.

My Project
One of my favorite things about my classroom is that one whole wall is windows that look out on the playground. This gives me a unique opportunity to observe students during recess while I eat lunch.
Unfortunately, I've noticed some students don't seem to have anyone to play with at recess.
I've seen students at both the kindergarten-second grade recess and the third-fifth grade recess stand alone near a wall or sit by the doors until it's time to come inside.
To help solve this problem, I would like to get a Buddy Bench for our playground. When students don't have anyone to play with, they sit on the Buddy Bench and other students invite them to play. I believe having a designated spot for students to go if they need someone to play with and having some new balls and jump ropes for students to use will set all students up for success at recess!
