This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of 2nd graders. They attend an urban school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. The students come from many different backgrounds, cultures, and face many different challenges in their day to day lives.
There are many single income families; families that are receiving assistance in one form or another, and families that are or were homeless at one time.
Regardless of the challenges these students face, they always come to school with smiles on their faces. They are eager to learn and when given an even playing field, they are capable of great things! I want to help even the field for them and their education.
My Project
My students love that the weather is finally nice and they can go outside everyday and burn off their extra energy. However, when they get outside they want something to do other than the slide and swings. I would like to give them footballs, kick balls, scooters, and partner activities to use outside at recess. The students will get exercise, get team building skills, and have fun all at the same time.
Nothing is worse to hear when you are outside then, I am bored!
This is what happens daily with my students because they are running out of activities to do, sports to play, and equipment to use. Please help me make their recess active so they are using up some of that extra energy they all seem to have at this time of year.
