My students live in a neighborhood in Arkansas that has a combination of low income and middle-income families. The families our school serves place a high value on education and are eager to have their children come to our school.
We are lucky to be participating in a recess pilot program this year.
Kids learn through play, and we need things to play with. Recess is all about unwinding, taking a mental break, and distressing. With the right toys, students can also explore, problem solve, and improve social skills while playing.
My Project
Our students work hard all day long, and now we want to play hard, too! Juggling scarves, stacking cups, board games, and playing cards will help our students mentally and physically take a break from learning. Students will not only take a break, but will also work on social skills.
The American Academy of Pediatrics says, "Recess is a necessary break in the day for optimizing a child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development." Recess helps kids manage stress, refocus, and relax.
Our recess is a time for kids to choose their way to unwind. These materials will give our students lots of fun choices for inside recess.
