Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students love to play sports such as soccer, basketball and football. They also love playing cooperatively in games and activities such as jump-rope, tag, sidewalk-chalk, "catch" and wall ball.
Our students are diverse, active, creative and engerized.
When engaged in play activities, our students are able to foster meaningful friendships, take mindful breaks from their academics and reboot within the fresh air to get ready for the rest of their day. Our hope is to improve the quality and quantity of children’s play by providing them with access to equipment and games.
My Project
Our students are passionate about their time outside and would like to revamp their play options. So passionate, in fact, that this DonorsChoose.org project is being proposed by the school's Student Council representatives (along with their teacher facilitators).
When students took initative to research this topic, they found that recess plays a critical role in the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of children.
These students also found that fewer than 1 in 3 American children get enough exercise each week.
Our representatives have identified that there are currently not enough options for all of our 4-8 students to fully engage in play activities during their recess time. This DonorsChoose.org project is a student generated solution to help their peers engage in play and improve their overall wellness.
