Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have never taught a group of students who so genuinely LOVE to be in school. After being sent home in March of 2020, most children were more than ready to come back to the classroom in September. Our hybrid learning model eased us back into the swing of things at the beginning of this year and just about a week ago, the two groups of Second Graders I had been seeing every other day finally got to meet in person in the classroom. We're all back in school full time now and getting so much more learning time in!
My Project
Being stuck behind a desk shield all day is difficult for most of my Second Graders. Trips outdoors for fresh air and recess are so necessary! With the playscapes still off limits and students needing to be socially distanced, recess isn't the great escape it used to be. Students are still not able share a ball, frisbee, hula hoop, piece of chalk, or even touch each other in a game of tag.
Imagine the excitement on each child's face when gifted their very own recess bag filled with equipment/activities to use outside.
Pool noodles used instead of hands in tag, sidewalk chalk to set up hopscotch or tic tac toe, choreographing dances with ribbons, skipping rope to learned rhymes, boomerang throwing contests and more!
