My Students
Do you remember the first grade? It's a great time to learn through play and experiences! My school recently became a STEM school. Students in our school come from all types of backgrounds, mainly Hispanic and African American.
My students have a love and passion for learning, they come to school every day charged up and ready to tackle new challenges.
I am amazed by the way they think outside the box to solve problems and by their energy!
The majority of the students at my school are English Learners with Spanish being the primary language spoken at home. Over 85% of students also qualify for free lunch. We are a Title I school as well. None of these things hold us back, they just make us shine even brighter!
My Project
The students at my school will use these materials during recess. We have recess 5 days a week, but because of the size of my school we only get one day on the playground. They need some equipment to play with the other 4 days of the week. Currently I turn them out into the field and they mill around! I would love to see them playing! With this equipment, they will play kickball, soccer, basketball, jump rope, and football. They will get creative and make up their own games too!
The students will run and play and jump and tumble and fall, and get back up again to play some more.
They will exercise, be aerobic, experience friendly competition, learn teamwork, and just be kids. Play is how kids learn! Social Emotional learning through play is so important, yet often overlooked! With this equipment, they will be involved in meaningful play that lets them forget their troubles for thirty minutes or so each school day and just have fun. Kids having fun at school? Who does that anymore? With your help, my students will have positive, healthy fun during recess. Thank you!
