This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is one of, if not the most diverse schools in New York City. Within our community, there are approximately 20 different languages spoken by our families. The majority of our families are first-generation working-class immigrants. We are a Title I school with more than 70% of our students falling far below the poverty line. Our students are AMAZING, despite the deficits faced by our school try very hard each and every day to ensure that we educate the WHOLE child. Our school struggle with the challenges of meeting some of the needs because of our diverse population. As a counselor in a low-income/high-poverty school, it is often challenging to meet the needs of all the students, especially their social and emotional needs. Each day we rise to meet the challenges of our students, this is often challenging during these unprecedented times.
My Project
Unfortunately, our schoolyard will be out of use for the remainder of the school year while it receives some much need work. Our students are in need of indoor activities for recess and our space is limited. Please help provide our students with a karaoke machine, puzzles, and other indoor activities during recess. We want to keep our students socially engaged as well as busy while our schoolyard is out of use. During recess we want our students to be able to engage in activities while they socialize with each other. My goal is to create various LUNCH CLUBS such as crochet, robotics, arts and crafts, drawing, and more. Please help me help our students!
