My Students

Help me give my students access to rebus readers that will encourage a life-long love of reading.

My classroom is about building skills and a life-long love for learning.

My students have an infectious love for life and learning and they love reading new books!

The students in my school come from the city with high poverty. They face many challenges from substance abuse in the home, trauma, to food insecurities. As their teacher, I strive to provide the most engaging learning in the classroom as possible.

My Project

Rebus readers from Scholastic are engaging and supportive for young students just beginning to read. The colorful graphics help students with early reading skills and helps them gain confidence in themselves as readers. These nonfiction rebus readers are full of high-interest, real-world topics that incorporate a years worth of kindergarten topics for Science and Social Studies. These text have strong picture support, patterned text structures, repeated high-frequency words, and clear print. Important vocabulary in these readers exposes students to words they might not otherwise be exposed to in everyday life.
