My Students

My school serves a total population of around 180 students. We are a Title I rural school in eastern NC. Students are served from four different communities in our small school system. Most of the families work outside of the county, while jobs in the county are related to the agriculture sector.

Due to the recent effects of Hurricane Florence, we lost our school.

Now we are rebuilding. Although our community has been devastated by the storm, we as a community know that bringing back a sense of normal is the key to helping our students.

This strong family-oriented community will continue to grow from our adversity and succeed.

My Project

North Carolina Standard Course of Study Essential Standards for 8th grade covers a variety of topics including Earth History. Plate tectonics is a difficult topic for students to understand. This will allow me to show students what is happening under the ground and how the layers of the earth are formed.

As we continue to rebuild our Science lab after Hurricane Florence, we are reminded that a hands on approach to learning and visual demo's help students understand difficult concepts.

My hope is that this demo will give students a better understanding of the movement of the earth and the results of the the movement in a way that everyone can understand.
