Remember how awkward the teen years can be? How much you want to stay on top of what's cool? Well, my freshman want to read but they want to read the newest, coolest books that are popular now.
My academic freshman attend a public high school that no longer has a librarian, making the purchase of new books to check out close to impossible.
My students want to read, but they want to read the books that are popular now, the ones that everyone is talking about, the ones being made into movies and spreading like wildfire. They WANT to READ--they just lack the books.
My Project
These 39 books are the best of the best in the teen world. These titles come from the Young Adult Library Services Association's (YALSA) lists for top ten best fiction for young adults, top ten graphic novels for teens, top ten popular paperbacks for young adults and the top ten quick picks for reluctant young adult readers. Students will be given the chance to hear about each book and check them out to read during our daily sustained silent reading time, as well as at home. Students will share with others in class what they are reading and what they like about them and hopefully, spread the interest in these books amongst other students on campus.
These books will make it possible for my students to read books about current, popular issues that they would not have access to otherwise.
They will get to read about topics that intrigue them and share what they enjoy with others who will also be inspired to read about them.
