Rebuild The LEGO Wall

Help me give my students more LEGOs and adhesive to fix our LEGO wall in the Media Center.

My Students

My students need extra support. Students at this school are hard working learners. They may come from homes that are struggling. More than three-fourths of them are on free or reduced price lunch, but that doesn’t stop them from wanting an education. The students are multiracial, including 40% White, 31% Hispanic, 23% Black, 3% Asian, and 3% multi-race. This creates an environment of acceptance and tolerance for all. My challenge is to level the playing field so that students with less opportunities are able to compete academically with those who have more opportunities.

Creating learning experiences for these students is the best part of my job; the joy on their faces as they are discovering something new and integrating knowledge into their “personal toolkits” is priceless.

In my learning environment, I endeavor to set them up to win in an environment that is inviting and comfortable. Sometimes, that means school supplies, mending clothing, a band aid or a kind word. I believe this will not only help the students focus, but will also produce a higher level of work from the student. Teaching these young learners is a privilege.

My Project

My students are crazy about LEGOs and I want to use that passion to help them learn about community and transportation. They can compare buildings, parks, stores or whatever their little hearts desire.

This project will expand young minds to think and build big.

Students will use this as a way to expand their imagination and also build on what they learn in the classroom. They will create endings to stories read to them. They will make places or things they can imagine from different stories read during media time, Legos can create an interactive learning space. Students love to come to the library - to READ and to explore their interests about science, technology, engineering, and math.
