The challenge my students are facing is that their classroom was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The only thing left in our classroom is four walls. All of their learning materials are gone.
I teach in a beautiful beach community.
My students walk in to school every day with enthusiastic smiles on their faces. I am honored to be working at such an incredible school where family is valued and every one looks out for each other. The support within our school is amazing.
My Project
The resources I am requesting are for my kindergarten classroom. I need to rebuild my reading, writing, math and art centers. Centers allow for me to work in differentiated small groups which provides more personal attention for each student throughout the day. I need leveled books for my library so that children can read at the appropriate level. We use writing materials such as dry erase boards, lined paper, and letter magnets to begin the writing process. Math manipulatives are important for hands on instruction. Art and craft materials are crucial to have in kindergarten so the children are practicing with scissors, glue, crayons, markers, easels, felt, paint, playdoh, etc.
My job as a teacher is to provide the best education I can to my students.
That is very hard to do with nothing. If this project is supported, I will be able to rebuild my classroom and make it the fun-filled, educational learning environment it once was. That is what the children deserve. They deserve all that they need to learn and love school.
