Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over a third of our students coming from a low-income household. These students are on free or reduced lunch and often times do not have the money to buy books.
Our students are tomorrow's Innovators.
In my classroom, I am trying to help these students believe that they are tomorrow's innovators and the future of our society. Reading helps these students to understand the past, explore the world, visit new places, plan for the future, create great things, to HAVE FUN and be innovative. I want to give my students the opportunity to be innovative and successful.
My Project
I would like to buy the last three years of Rebecca Caudill books for my classroom. Student engagement in reading allows them the opportunity to practice reading skills and strategies. Statistics show that the more a student reads and the more contact they have with words, the higher their vocabulary becomes. This translates into the ability to understand and read more difficult text.
Every year the Rebecca Caudill Award voting has an incentive in which students are able to vote for a winner.
Students are able to vote if they have read three of more books from the Caudill list. It is my goal that every year I have at least 100 of the 150 students voting for the award.
Many of my students have few books in the home to read; what we have in the school is vital to increasing their abilities and desire. My students are beginning to show excitement and the love of reading by offering a variety of literature genres, through incentives, and competitions. These students love competing.
Your donations will allow the school to have a complete set of the Rebecca Caudill books to be available for our students to choose from. These books will remain in the classroom for future classes and students to be able to read for years to come.
