Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade at a school where 90% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Almost half of my students are second language learners, and a small portion have special needs.
Although they face so many challenges, they always come to school happy and excited to learn.
I want to support them the best I can! They like to move, they love to be part of our community, and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them receive a free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
My Project
Our school is wanting to create a sustainable school garden for all to use! We currently have a school garden that has not been used due to our lack of tools and materials. We want to transform this garden into a student centered environment, which is important to staff, parents and students. Building a school garden can teach students lessons in all academic and social areas. What better way to foster appreciation for the Earth than letting students get their hands dirty! Students will use the gloves to dig around the garden. The water hose will allow them to water their own plants independently.
These garden tools will help us transform our outdoor garden from drab to fab!
All these tools will give the students an opportunity to tend to the school garden and give them a place they can go to relax and learn. Your donations will inspire many students though hands-on learning in our garden!
