Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are between 10 and 12 years old and come from very low income neighborhoods.
Many of my students struggle with reading and read below grade level. We are required to meet with the kids and try to keep them engaged with enriching reading materials, but the school does not have the money to pay for subscriptions. I would love to hook them in with a class set of Time For Kids so that they have relevant, non-fiction material to read.
By providing the class with the subscription to Time For Kids,the students in my class will not only be able to be reading, but they may actually enjoy reading since the topics will be current and the illustrations and photos in the Time For Kids really hook the readers.
By supporting this project you are opening the window for students who feel at times that the door has been shut on them. They read books that are falling apart or photocopies of materials instead of original copies and they don't become engaged. Maybe this will be just what my reluctant readers need.
TIME For Kids Magazine- World Report Edition w/ TFK Around the World (grades 4-6). Pricing is valid for orders placed after March 2008. After August 15th of current school year, pricing will remain in effect but TIME For Kids reserves the right to prorate issue quantity and free gifts.
