This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students have lost a great deal of foundational skills. The initial understanding of any language begins with recognizing the alphabet and having the ability to say the sound of each letter. We have worked together (students, teachers, and parents) to discover the deficits that impede the children from becoming readers.

I love that they are starting to realize the pleasure that reading brings along with the new knowledge.

We share books with classroom readalouds. I get to experience their glowing faces, the light bulbs brightening, the wheels of emotion churning and the chatter that ignites as they make connections they want to share. All this flows through the room as I read all sorts of stories to them. We share math, science, history, and social studies quite often. I now have students that request to take books home for their parents to share in their reading journey.

The resources I desire to purchase will create a more individualized learning journey as well small group instruction to address their specific learning needs. Interventions are an essential part of getting children on the reading railway. We put in good hard work daily to become that greatness that is inside of us. The goal is to go beyond decoding words to comprehension and building a vocabulary for reading.
